It has a yearly budget of EUR 2.3 billion, entirely financed by the fees paid by its users.

 

As set out in its Strategic Plan 2023, the EPO is committed to developing a strong partnership with the EU institutions and agencies, in particular the EUIPO and CPVO, to foster support for innovation in Europe. With that policy in mind, it is also looking to engage in constructive and transparent dialogue with civil society, NGOs and business associations, many of which have their seat in Brussels.

 

As the first point of contact with key stakeholders in Brussels and all EU institutions, the Brussels Bureau has a pivotal role to play in the effective delivery of the EPO's strategic intent to foster co‑operation and build a stronger patent system and IP network. To oversee these important missions, the EPO is currently seeking to appoint a Director of the Brussels Bureau, to work direct with the President of the EPO and in close co-ordination with the Office's various departments.

 

Your main responsibilities

 

  • Facilitating and driving key initiatives in line with the EPO's Strategic Plan to ensure the effective implementation of the objectives
  • Partnering key stakeholders within the European institutions, and identifying and developing opportunities to promote and strengthen co-operation and the IP network in line with the strategic objectives
  • Representing the EPO on special committees and in interest groups to support the delivery of the key strategic initiatives
  • Mobilising and managing a team tasked with translating the strategic objectives into a comprehensive actionable plan, and ensuring its proper execution
  • Acting as a resource across the organisation and working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to increase cohesion on and alignment with the strategic objectives relating to co-operation and strengthening the patent system

 

What we expect from you

 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and garner support from a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively and constructively in pursuit of the EPO's strategic goals
  • In-depth understanding and proven experience of patents and IP
  • Ability to establish instant rapport and build networks
  • Ability to obtain and filter information and identify key issues relevant to the achievement of long-term strategic goals

 

Your qualifications

 

  • Diploma of completed university studies at master's level or – in exceptional cases – equivalent professional experience
  • Excellent knowledge of one official language and ability to understand the other two; in exceptional cases, excellent knowledge of one official language and ability to understand another
  • A deep knowledge of the EU institutions and agencies, their governance and policies, especially in relation with IP and innovation
  • A proven and successful track record of networking with the different stakeholders present in Brussels or with the EU institutions and agencies
  • Citizenship of one of the member states of the European Patent Organisation

 

 

Time frame

 

It is intended to hold the interviews in week 38/39 in Munich.

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of qualifications, supplemented as appropriate by interviews, tests and/or a personality questionnaire

 

* after deduction of EPO internal tax and before deduction of staff contributions to the social-security and pension schemes.
