Facility Management

Who we are
With almost 7 000 employees, the European Patent Office (EPO) is the second-largest public service institution in Europe. It supports innovation, competitiveness and economic growth across Europe through a commitment to high-quality and efficient services delivered under the European Patent Convention, its founding treaty. It has an annual budget of EUR 2.3 billion, entirely financed by the fees paid by its users.

What we do
Our Strategic Plan 2023 (SP2023) sets out our vision for where we want to be as an organisation, as well as how we want to get there, and all our teams derive their key goals and initiatives from it.

In our Corporate Services - General Administration area, our key deliverables include driving the Building Investment Programme (totalling about EUR 1 billion over the next 10 years) to build a more modern work environment, start the digitalisation of our processes and services, achieve sustainable building certification and spread a culture of corporate sustainability by reducing CO2 emissions across all fields.

In order to be able to drive these strategic initiatives, we need to rely on our core teams in General Administration – Technical Facility Management to:

  • Ensure a modern, safe and healthy work environment for staff and visitors alike
  • Maintain buildings and technical equipment (five countries, 12 buildings, 600 000 m2)
  • Supply buildings with electrical power, water, heating and cooling (total energy consumption 2019: 67 691 MWh)
  • Initiate and manage small and medium-sized projects across the entire facilities life cycle
  • Move our business from preventive to predictive maintenance

What's in it for you?

  • The opportunity to help shape our environment. At the EPO we strive to be a role model for the use of modern technology in our field of expertise. SP2023 covers the digitalisation of our services and technology so resources are available to implement new technology in parallel to our daily business.
  • Ongoing professional development and peer-to-peer support from expert colleagues
  • The chance to work with inspiring people from many different cultures
  • An excellent social package, including health insurance and pension schemes
  • Relocation benefits and various allowances (e.g. household, dependants', childcare, education, expatriation, installation and rent allowances), depending on personal circumstances

We are serious about our values and we live them: Respect, Fairness, Diversity, Trust, Collaboration

  • We get things done together
  • We are not afraid to take the initiative
  • If mistakes happen, we address them openly and we learn from them
  • If there are conflicts, we deal with them
