Language Data Manager in Language Services (22045)

Principal Directorate General Administration (PD 44) provides EPO-wide services in the areas of buildings, facilities and language services. Within PD 44, Directorate Language Services provides editing, translation, interpreting and document formatting as well as maintaining a terminology database for the EPO's three official languages and advising authors on linguistic matters and various aspects of drafting. All of these are essential to our modern organisation, which values quality and consistency in communication.

Team Translation and Editing is now looking for a language data manager and expert in post-editing machine translation to continuously optimise language technologies.

With us you will:

  • perform quality evaluation and risk management for AI-based specialised translation
  • perform quality checks of work delivered by our outsourcing partners
  • manage and continuously improve language technologies such as translation memories, terminology databases, neural machine translation and editing/authoring tools
  • support configuration of machine-translation tools to deliver optimal results with minimal need for post-editing
  • work with authors to enhance quality at source (i.e. pre-edit for machine translation)
  • post-edit machine translation
  • manage editing and translation projects assigned to our outsourcing partners
  • integrate terminology in language software tools and keep it up to date
  • simplify and optimise workflows and processes

Apply if you have:

  • a master's degree in translation, preferably with a specialisation in language data management, artificial intelligence and post-editing, and/or relevant experience in these fields
  • excellent knowledge of artificial intelligence methods relevant to translation and language technologies
  • a forward-thinking approach to developing new solutions, processes and workflows
  • initial experience in helping turn strategic directions into operational objectives
  • a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • willingness to encourage proactive knowledge transfer
  • a strong sense of responsibility and a “can-do” attitude
  • eagerness to continuously learn about new developments in the business area
  • the ability to manage changes effectively while maintaining a high level of service quality
  • highly effective communication and drafting skills

Our minimum requirements for this post

  • Diploma of completed studies at master's level or – in exceptional cases – equivalent professional experience
  • Generally, an excellent knowledge (at least C1) of one official language (English, French and German) and ability to understand the other two; alternatively, excellent knowledge (at least C1) of at least one official language (in such cases, the willingness to learn the missing language(s) and to reach level B2 within a set time frame would be required)
  • Citizenship of one of the member states of the European Patent Organisation

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of qualifications, competencies, professional experience and language knowledge, supplemented as appropriate by interviews, tests and/or a personality questionnaire.
