The Hague

Situated on the Netherlands' western coast, The Hague enjoys a reputation as a hub for commerce and trade. The city of over 530 000 inhabitants has retained its relaxed small-town charms that make it a good choice for families. For those in search of big-city lights, Amsterdam is only 60 km away. For those looking to relax at the beach, or go sailing or surfing, the most attractive beaches in the entire country are only minutes away. And globetrotters will be pleased to know that Schiphol international airport is just 40 km from the city centre.

The Hague plays host to the main international embassies and consulates in the Netherlands, and is known for its warm welcome to travellers from across the globe. King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands lives and works here. So while the official crown of "capital city" rests securely with Amsterdam, The Hague is the actual seat of government. No reason to boast, though. Inhabitants of The Hague prefer to enjoy their wonderful town in peace and quiet, leaving big-city bustle to the capital.

The Hague is regarded as the International City of Peace and Justice and home to over 200 international organisations.
Due to its high number of expats, relocating to The Hague means joining a large international community.

The EPO`s new main building creates an impressive landmark in the local skyline and offers our staff an environmentally sustainable workplace

The designers created an open, transparent building with a mix of both standard offices and shared spaces to ensure that conditions provided new ways of co-operation and space management.

It has a double glass facade that plays an essential part of the building's climate concept and houses hanging gardens containing 300 different varieties of plants. Vast arrays of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof sky garden provide/serve as a source of renewable electric energy to the main power supply to be distributed throughout the building, and an aquifer thermal energy storage system will reduce primary energy consumption and related CO2 emissions.

Around 2 500 people work for the EPO in The Hague.
