Boosting innovation, facilitating technology transfer and supporting IP commercialisation in Europe: sounds interesting?


If you have considerable experience in the field of technology transfer and IP commercialisation, you may be just the person we are looking for to join the Directorate Patent Knowledge Promotion and to be part of the exciting new project "PATLIB 2.0".

The EPO aims to boost innovation and foster economic growth by providing pan-European support for the commercialisation of IP-based technologies. This will happen through a network of over 320 PATLIB centres. "PATLIB 2.0", part of the EPO's Strategic Plan 2023, aims to help these centres to develop their services so that the network they form is the best in the world. One noteworthy part of this project is to facilitate technology transfer and IP commercialisation, and introduce customer-discovery training for innovators.


With us you will:

  • lead the implementation of a customer-discovery initiative and other work in this area
  • manage content and delivery of training events on innovation, technology transfer, and IP commercialisation
  • co-ordinate activities in the areas of innovation, technology transfer and IP commercialisation, both internally at the EPO and externally with PATLIB stakeholders
  • analyse, plan and execute a harmonised technology-transfer certification scheme in Europe
  • develop and execute a plan for engaging SMEs in patenting strategies and IP transfer processes and other relevant activities in patent valorisation


Apply if you have:


  • a practical background in technology transfer and IP commercialisation
  • knowledge of technology-transfer trends and best practices, and familiarity with patent licensing processes at universities and industry, including start-up companies and SMEs
  • ambition, passion, and a deep commitment to supporting innovation across Europe
  • a creative mind and ability to think out-of-the-box
  • the ability to work in a close-knit team


Your qualifications:


  • Diploma of completed studies in science, engineering, or business at master's level or – in exceptional cases – equivalent professional experience
  • Generally, an excellent knowledge (at least C1) of one official language (English, French and German) and ability to understand the other two. In exceptional cases, excellent knowledge (at least C1) of one official language and working knowledge (at least B2) of another. In such cases, the willingness to learn the third language and to reach Level B2 within a set time frame would be required.
  • Citizenship of one of the member states of the European Patent Organisation
